Are you washing your face wrong?
The Ultimate 7-Simple Step Guide to Washing Your Face
Washing your face is a daily ritual that goes beyond just removing dirt and grime. It's an opportunity to pamper yourself and achieve healthy, glowing skin. But are you washing your face properly? Spoiler alert: A warm face cloth works miracles (see more below).
In this post, we'll dive into the art of face washing, exploring pro tips and the science behind the importance of this skincare step. Get ready to elevate your skincare game and embrace a refreshed complexion!
Step 1: Choose the right cleanser: To start off, select a facial cleanser that suits your skin type. Whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin, opt for a gentle cleanser that does not contain alcohol and contains natural oils so it doesn’t strip away your skin’s natural oils.
Step 2: Wet your face and lightly massage it all away: Splash your face with lukewarm water to dampen your skin, then apply a small amount of cleanser to your fingertips. Gently massage the cleanser onto your face using circular motions for 20-30 seconds, this helps dislodge dirt, excess oil, and makeup residue (as well as provides a light skin stimulating massage).
Step 3 - Wisely remove the cleanser: We believe in the wisdom of our elders, use a warm washcloth to remove your cleanser. Sounds old fashioned but it works. After you’ve massaged the cleanser onto your face, take a warm washcloth (the warmer the better but not super hot) squeeze off most of the water and drape it over your face for 10 seconds (enough time to take three deep breaths) and then gently wipe the cleanser away. It acts as a light exfoliation. Note: Avoid rubbing your skin, as this can cause friction and potentially damage delicate facial tissues, gentle wiping only.
Step 5- Use your serum on slightly damp skin: the moisture pulls the serum into your skin. Some people like to use toner before serum or go directly to serum. Do what you prefer but make sure serum goes on slightly moist skin.
Step 6 - Put moisturizer on dry skin: Wait for your serum to naturally absorb and then put moisturizer on (or if you prefer no moisturizer after serum, that’s fine too. Do what is right for your skin). Make sure you put moisturizer on your neck and decollete (chest) as well. We often forget about these areas and they show signs of aging too.
Step 7 - Eye cream: With your ring finger, gently pat a small amount of eye cream below and along the side of your eyes as your final skin care step.
